OCR: Population density When these photographs were taken in 1964-65, the Bomagai-Angoiang had a low population density of about 68 persons per square mile (about 26 persons per square kilometer) of cultivable land. Most scholars believe this density is well below the figure where serious land degradation would begin under a system of shifting cultivation. As the photos show, the territory of the Bomagai-Angoiang was mostly covered with well-developed forests, which were very useful to the people as a source of many valuable products.
